February jobs report

“Markets are looking for another robust jobs report, and bump up in (worker) wages, as a sign that the U.S. economy has escaped deflation and subpar growth of the past few years,” says Joe Quinlan, chief market strategist at U.S. Trust.US-unemployment-jobs-fair-007

The U.S. job-creation machine kicked off 2015 with robust gains. The economy produced a better-than-expected 257,000 new jobs in January, and the government also revised upwards job gains in the prior two months by 147,000. Another strong jobs report, Quinlan says, will underpin consumer confidence and spending going forward. It will also “cement” market expectations that the Federal Reserve, indeed, is going to raise interest rates later this year.

While fears of coming rate hikes could cause some market volatility, Wall Street will likely “grind through it,” Quinlan predicts. “The early stages of a Fed tightening cycle are bullish for equities. Why? Because growth is usually accelerating and profits remain strong,” he says.

Adds Tom Lee, managing partner at Fundstrat Global Advisors: “Labor markets have been solid, so continued momentum would be an affirmation of the consumer story. Moreover, with oil prices in decline and rig counts falling, investors worry about the fallout on labor markets — this is overstated, in general, since total jobs created in the energy sector the past six years is only 300,000.”

Markets brace for March Madness

It’s not just NCAA hoops players who have to deal with March Madness. Wall Street does too, as March has a reputation for maddening market mood swings, with the Nasdaq composite topping out in March 2000 and hitting a bear market bottom in March 2009.635606382359647780-MARCHMADNESSSTOCKS

So, with the Nasdaq again flirting with the 5000 milestone for the first time in 15 years and its March 2000 record close of 5048.62, what will move the markets up and down this month?

In general, March is the fifth-best performance month for the tech-packed Nasdaq. The average gain of 0.8% is less than the 1%-plus gains delivered by the Dow Jones industrial average and Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index in March. The Nasdaq’s best March ever was in 2009 when it gained 10.9% at the start of the six-year-old bull. Here are few key dates and potential market-moving events that could result in either a score for investors — or foul up their portfolios after very strong stock market

Twitter updates tools to combat abuse

CEO Dick Costolo has pledged to reduce the amount of abuse on Twitter. Now the company is rolling out new tools aimed at combating it. “Overall, we now review five times as many user reports as we did previously, and we have tripled the size of the support team focused on handling abuse reports,” Tina Bhatnagar, vice president of user services, wrote in a blog post.3021413_twitter-building-2013-fullwidth

Twitter is hoping changes announced Wednesday will help keep people who harass others off Twitter. In December, Twitter made it easier to report abuse and harassment. It also began allowing people who witness abuse, not just the victims of the abuse, to report it. Twitter said it’s expanding that ability to reporting impersonation, self harm and inappropriate posting of personal information.

Twitter has faced growing pressure to better shield users from abuse, especially as its user growth has stagnated. Earlier this month Costolo said he was “ashamed” at how the company has handled issues with abuse reported by users and took “full responsibility” for not tackling the problem more aggressively. According to an internal memo obtained by The Verge, Costolo responded to a story about Lindy West, a writer frequently targeted with abuse on Twitter. “We suck at dealing with abuse,” Costolo said in the memo.

Ericsson Sues to Block Apple IPhone in U.S. Amid Patent Spat

The licensing battle between Apple Inc. and Ericsson AB is escalating. Ericsson, a pioneer in mobile phones that transformed itself into the world’s largest maker of wireless networks, said Friday it’s filing seven new lawsuits in a U.S. court and is asking the U.S. International Trade Commission to block Apple products from the U.S. market.apple-store

Together, the complaints accuse Apple of infringing as many as 41 patents for some of the fundamental ways mobile devices communicate and for related technology such as user interfaces, battery saving and the operating system. “We have offered them a license; they have a turned it down,” said Kasim Alfalahi, Ericsson’s chief intellectual property officer. “We’re not a company that’s planning to extract more than the value we put on the table.”

Apple had been paying royalties to Stockholm-based Ericsson before a license expired in mid-January. When talks over renewal failed, the companies sued each other, seeking court rulings on whether Ericsson’s royalty demands on fundamental technology were fair and reasonable.

“We’ve always been willing to pay a fair price to secure the rights to standards essential patents covering technology in our products,” Kristin Huguet, an Apple spokeswoman, said in a statement. “Unfortunately, we have not been able to agree with Ericsson on a fair rate for their patents so, as a last resort, we are asking the courts for help.”

Early Weekend Estimates: ‘Focus’ Eyes $18.5M Opening Frame; ‘Kingsman’ Remains Strong W/ $10.8M; ‘The Lazarus Effect’ Scares Up $9.2M

Warner Bros. reports that Focus earned an estimated $6.47 million for its opening day, easily taking first place on Friday. The Will Smith-Margot Robbie con artist flick debuted just under Limitless’ $6.6 million first day back in 2011. Unfortunately, early word of mouth appears very mixed as the film received a “B” CinemaScore and sits at a 66 percent user rating on Rotten Tomatoes this morning (where critics disapprove even more at 56 percent). Still, the film’s adult-skewing appeal could balance out some of the early complaints about the film throughout the weekend. BoxOffice is projecting an opening frame of $18.5 million.feb27

Relativity’s The Lazarus Effect debuted to $3.8 million on Friday as it claimed second place for the day, nearly 24 percent lower than last year’s Oculus. The horror pic’s early buzz isn’t heading in the right direction, though: only 33 percent of Rotten Tomatoes users approve of the film so far, while critics have given it an even lower 14 percent. Given the natural tendency for horror pics to drop off quickly, expect the same here. BoxOffice projects a $9.2 million opening weekend.

Fifty Shades of Grey slid into third place yesterday with $3.5 million, down another 56.5 percent from last Friday. The erotic drama has taken in $140.3 million domestically through 15 days of release, putting it 8 percent ahead of the original Twilight. BoxOffice projects a $9.9 million third weekend.

Fox’s Kingsman: The Secret Service continues to display strong holding power as it eased 41 percent from last Friday to $3.12 million in fourth place. The graphic novel adaptation has earned an impressive $77.1 million domestically to date, putting it 1 percent ahead of Daredevil and 31 percent ahead of Jumper through their same release points. Kingsman will also surpass the latter film’s final domestic gross of $80.2 million over the weekend. Look for a weekend total around $10.8 million.

Filling out the top five yesterday was The DUFF, down just 50 percent from opening day last week to $2.14 million. The sleeper hit’s 8-day total stands at just over $15 million, putting it 15 percent ahead of the pace of That Awkward Moment. BoxOffice projects a $6.5 million weekend.

Three well-received holdovers fought for space just outside the top five yesterday. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water dropped 47.5 percent to $2.11 million, giving it a strong $131.2 total thus far and setting it on course for an $8.9 million frame.

National Timeshare Owners Association CEO To Speak At Upcoming TATOC Conference

The National Timeshare Owners Association is pleased to announce that they will be attending and speaking at the upcoming TATOC (http://www.tatoc.co.uk) conference being held March 6-8th in Warrington, UK.

NTOA is the premier association giving a united voice to the nearly 8 million timeshare owners in the United States and Canada.  With strong owner advocacy and education programs, the organization has encouraged owners to explore all of the benefits and use of timesharing for nearly 20 years.

Gregory Crist, the NTOA’s CEO will travel to the UK to present findings from the first of its kind “Timeshare Owners Study”, based on more than 500,000 online mentions over the course of the last twelve months, collected and analyzed by INTUITION Brand Marketing from publicly available sources. “This overview will allow TATOC delegates the opportunity to gain valuable insights on what’s being said about the timeshare industry, where most of the online conversations are taking place and what topics are most often discussed by owners and more, said Crist.

“There has never been a report of this kind created before, which documents the power and influence of social media through the use of technology that we now have available to us,” says Paul Mattimoe, President & CEO, Perspective Group. “Our INTUITION service has many implementations, and we are pleased to be able to utilize its monitoring service to provide NTOA with highly detailed information that can help them educate industry professionals and timeshare owners”.

“TATOC has been a strategic partner to the NTOA for nearly two years now”, says Harry Taylor, TATOC’s President.  “Working in concert with NTOA has given timeshare owners around the world a real “safety net” and this Timeshare Owners Study should prove extremely useful when looking at future strategies that we are currently working on together.”

In addition to presenting the study, Crist will be highlighting the associations’ ASK program that works in partnership with TATOC as well as discussing the progress they’ve been able to make in developing a coalition of working relationships that include resorts, management companies and associations throughout North America. “We are truly a collaborative organization and have been very fortunate to build working relationships with CRDA and ARDA as well as many others in the timeshare community, said Crist. When we approach owner challenges, we are looking to find meaningful solutions together that benefit the community as a whole. The 2015 TATOC Conference is entitled “A Time For Change” and the Timeshare Owners Study is a true example of what we are doing now and what we can be doing tomorrow to change our industry for the better, Crist continued.

RTX Posts Record Highs For January

Resort Travel & Xchange (RTX) is on a roll.  Transactions at the International timeshare exchange company hit a record high in January, 2015, with 463 timeshare exchanges by members, an impressive 171 percent increase over the same period last year.

The new record represents a 132 percent gain over the company’s previous best month for exchanges, October 2014.

The numbers for last-minute getaways reflect even more growth, up 198 percent last month over January 2014 and 124 percent over the company’s previous record for getaways booked, set in February 2014.

“While we’re thrilled about RTX’s amazing transactional growth, we are equally proud that our average time to fulfill requests reached just 4.4 days, significantly below the industry average,” said Justin Hunter, RTX director of operations. “Our staff has worked hard to achieve this remarkable growth, while at the same time maintaining an unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional service.”

Hunter attributes RTX’s growth in part to enhanced staff training and member and partner education. During the past year, the company increased training and added customer service staff. At the same time, a low supervisor-to-representative ratio remained integral to the company’s quality assurance program.

Further driving growth, RTX’s education initiatives have kept members informed on promotions and benefits via weekly and bi-weekly emails. The quarterly RTX Traveler magazine also serves to improve members’ understanding of the role exchange plays in maximizing the value of vacation ownership. As another vehicle for growth, RTX increased its presence at key industry meetings and conferences last year. Its exhibits and sponsorships have proven effective in building relations with resort and HOA partners, allowing the company to continually add to its products and services.

RTX provides members – 80,000 strong and growing – with a risk-free exchange program. The innovative company works with a vast network of travel partners around the globe to provide members with the best possible exchange options. Among the many benefits, RTX members enjoy flexible split-week reservations; low exchange fees; and the longest deposit period in the exchange industry, lasting up to 48 months. Members are rewarded for each exchange they make with a rebate of up to $40 off their next purchase.  Additionally, they gain exclusive airport lounge memberships and significant savings on hotel accommodation, car rentals, cruises, attractions and restaurants. The result is great savings as well as the convenience of planning their entire vacation in one consolidated package.

Susan Downing Helps to Raise Awareness for Jamaican Education Project

Susan Downing, CEO of Comprehensive Venture Consulting a Canadian educator and trainer, was recently profiled on Small Business Trendsetters about her efforts to raise donations for an upcoming program to help at-risk youth in Jamaica.

February 27, 2015 – With a background in educating and working with at-risk youth in her native Canada, Susan Downing knows what is needed to provide students with the necessary skills to become small business entrepreneurs. She was recently profiled on Small Business Trendsetters about her plans to start a training program in Jamaica this summer.

The Trendsetters piece covered Downing’s over thirty years of experience in teaching and working with at-risk youth in British Columbia. Her programs focus on providing essential business skills that teach students how to acquire experience that will help them find a career and earn money. Now she is taking that knowledge and using it to start an education project at Waterford Primary in Portmore, Jamaica. Current plans call for forming a group of about fourteen students whom she will teach and mentor during May and June.

Since the program is limited in time, she is hoping to impart as many marketable skills as quickly as possible. One area she will focus on is learning how to form a business that can print and sell T-shirts. Jamaica does not have a welfare system or any government programs currently available to teach these skills; many children lack formal training and simply fall through the cracks. For many children in Jamaica, having a marketable skill such as this could mean the difference between abject poverty and financial stability.

“I am thrilled to be able to start this program at Waterford Primary,” commented Downing. “Instead of waiting for the government or charitable organizations to fill their needs, I hope to be able to provide these students with skills that will help them take care of their own needs. This program is vitally important, so I’ll teach as many job and business skills as I can in the time available to give them the best shot at success.”

Downing has a varied background which she believes will come in useful when training the Jamaican students. In addition to industrial education, she has experience as an electrician and dental assistant, and possesses skills such as sewing and crafting which can be helpful for students who wish to pursue a variety of career paths.

If the training in May and June is successful, Downing hopes to expand it to other schools and provide a long-term center of education for at-risk youth. For this year’s trip, she is requesting donations of financial support and supplies such as plain t-shirts, transfer paper and printers for the program. Donations need to be received in time for the program’s start at the beginning of May.

PoppyTootToot Announces Their Debut Product Will Be A Car Kick Mat Protector

If you are a parent and have those little ones riding in the backseat of the family car, you have felt those feet pushing on your seat from behind. Charlie from PoppyTootToot have indicated that “These Car Kick Mat Protectors are just not another problem for moms and dads, because with the possibility of your kids having dirty shoes on, wouldn’t it be nice to know there is a way to protect the back of the seats from your kids shoes from scuff marks and dirty seats?”

It is PoppyTootToot solution to the rescue. Charlie from PoppyTootToot said their company is introducing its “Deluxe Back Seat Protector Kick Mats + Organizer” twin pack to the market. Each Kick Mat is 27 by 20 inches and mounts easily on the back of your front car seats. Charlie indicate ‘there simply won’t  be any mud, no scuff marks, no dirt, no boot tracks on the back of the seats with these kick mats!” These kick mat covers protect all kinds of scratches that potentially compromise any seat covers.

We all get the idea of seat protection, but PoppyTootToot goes the extra mile by adding a space organizer to the mix. There are two storage pockets built into each kick mat protector. This is a major boon for cars already stretched for storage space. These pocket storage options allow the little goodies we always bring along when we are hauling the kids around, anything from snacks to wet-wipes can be stored in these storage pockets. Yes, finally there is a place to put these accessories so the vehicle will not get messed up.

As ‘Most cars, vans and SUV’s come in multiple configurations, our back seat protector mat fit of  vehicles.” Yes! The mounting straps are designed to fit even larger back seats with top and bottom adjustable clips allowing customized fitting for 99% of all household vehicles. When kids get those feet up on the protector (unintentionally, of course), mud and soil hit a water resistant fabric which can be wiped clean. Mom or dad can clean that. And if that doesn’t work? Yes, Charlie says “these are washable when a little more parent attention is required.” Parents are assured with a lifetime no-hassle free replacement guarantee on top of that.

Controversial Review of Profit Academy (Anik Singal) Published by IM Expert Hanif Quentino

A controversial review of Anik Singal’s Profit Academy has been published by internet marketing expert Hanif Quentino, who is best known for his expertise in driving targeted organic traffic, paid media campaigns and conversion rate optimization.

Anik Singal is the creator of Profit Academy, and he has successfully mentored many students over the past decade in becoming successful with their onlines businesses. However, a few years ago Anik suffered a series of setbacks and started to fail in many of his online businesses.

Anik reinvented his company and after last year’s successful launch of Inbox Blueprint, he has now released Profit Academy as a comprehensive training, coaching and support system for beginner/intermediate marketers.

Hanif Quentino has published an in-depth review of Profit Academy on a popular IM forum, which is gaining a lot of attention from the internet marketing community.

Profit Academy focuses on building a digital business and obtaining traffic from multiple sources including search engines and social media. The following social media news reveals of the many trends that Profit Academy members will be positioned to take advantage of.

Facebook recently released an interest targeting tool, which makes it easy for businesses to get their ads seen by the right audiences. The reality is that if business owners purchase interest targeted ads, they can make their marketing campaigns more effective.

When buisness owners start running ad campaigns that are targeted towards specific demographics of people, they should see conversion rates increase. Of course, knowing which demographics to target can be difficult. Many people like to experiment with small campaigns and scale up their advertising budgets once they have found audiences that response well to their advertisements.

The audience insights tool on Facebook’s ad platform can help to analyse trends and find new demographics to target.

Some people think that targeted advertising is too expensive, but this is mainly because such people have not personally witnessed the results of a targeted ad campaign. If they were to run untargeted campaigns, they are paying to have their ads seen by people who are just never going to buy their business’s products or services, no matter how good they may be.

It is important to remember that Facebook is not the only social media platform that is selling targeted ads. Twitter is another popular social media platform that businesses can use to distribute targeted ads. It is also possible to post targeted content to large audiences on Google+.

Large amounts of untargeted traffic is no longer very valuable to advertisers. In 2015, social interests and behavioral targeting are becoming essential parameters to consider for those wanting to run successful online marketing campaigns.

Hanif Quentino’s Profit Academy review and exclusive bonus offer has been published and can be viewed by the public.
