Already a contributor to three books that highlight the empowerment and achievements of women, author Helen Owens announces the release of her new book Finding Our She-Compass: 15 Life Lessons for Women Voyaging Toward Restoration, Reconstruction, and Renewal. This one-of-a-kind guide to self-discovery is a collection of real-life stories and experiences that show women how to harness their personal power and self-esteem. Drawing upon decades of experience as a hair loss and hair restoration expert who has helped women public and private regain their dignity and crowning glory, Owens’ book is encouraging women everywhere to become captains of their own ships, the compass of their own souls and commanders of their own journeys.
Owens will also begin filming her podcast “Finding Our She-Compass” later this month, a video series that offers solutions for women navigating some of life’s biggest challenges in relationships, finances, motherhood, and self-esteem. Owens conceived this panel-style talk show as a way for women from all backgrounds and socio-economic strata to come together to uplift, elevate and empower one another.
“I lost my hair as a child to alopecia areata, had a lifelong struggle with dyslexia, and was a mother by the age of 17,” says Owens. “I spent a fair amount of my life in San Francisco’s Hunter’s Point housing project, but I always had hope for something better. This book and podcast are huge achievements for me and I hope that my story and the stories of other women struggling to find themselves can help others stand proudly at the helm of their lives and steer toward a direction of personal success.”
The book, full of words of wisdom and sage advice, is already receiving great feedback. California criminal prosecutor Ann Huntley is recommending that Finding Our She-Compass be added to her judicial office’s recommended reading section as a resource for troubled women and girls. “So many of the girls and women I meet are in custody because they’ve made bad choices,” says Huntley. “This book is filled with hope and can give these girls and women the power to reclaim and reinvent themselves. This collection of stories makes readers believe the universe is enormous, and it teaches them to see opportunities instead of obstacles. The definition of womanhood is reinvention. Whether you’re a 17-year old or a 57-year old, prepare to be changed.”
