“This song, ’Silent for Too Long’ is the product of when one survivor, spoken word artist, and a songwriter for the conscious Hip Hop Genre teams up with an up and coming Hip Hop artist with an acoustic flair,” said Merci McKinley, while talking about the new song. Although the song is written by Merci, she says it was brought to life by up and coming female artist Monielle whom is the “acoustic flair” referenced as part of the duo. “I believe that this song will inspire, and evoke a personal resolve towards understanding the human-being behind the voices rising from the shadows and joining the movement,” she added. The observed comments on social media, the subsequent backlash, and the mockery served as a stimulus towards the lyrics of the song itself.

In addition, she is also a US Army veteran who served the United States for fourteen years before being retired for medical reasons.
